Most tools hand you a list. Langee hands you a session: seven practice tools dealt by FSRS — the open-source scheduler Anki adopted — with a twist nobody else has. Reading and listening are scheduled as separate skills, because spotting a word on a page and catching it in speech are not the same ability. And when a card comes from a video, the original scene is one tap from replay.

What happens in the film
The film shows how Langee turns an English subtitle into an instant meaning card, saves the word, pauses for active listening, mixes seven practice modes, schedules review with FSRS, and returns to the content you already love.

Thirty-three languages, properly supported.
Every one of them is lemmatised — save gelaufen and Langee knows laufen, läuft and lief are the same word instead of counting four. All 33 get neural voices and AI-translated subtitles — the preferred learning track even when the platform provides its own. Pronunciation scoring covers 24.

Questions
The things you'd ask before installing.
Do I need my own Netflix or Disney+ subscription?
Yes. Langee is a layer on top of what you already pay for — it hosts no content of its own and it never asks for your streaming password. No subscription? YouTube and TED work with nothing but a browser.
Is this allowed? Am I going to get my account banned?
Langee reads the subtitle track your browser has already loaded and draws its own layer over the page, the way an accessibility tool or an ad blocker does. It doesn't download video, strip protection or republish anything. Extensions have worked this way on these platforms for years.
What level do I need to be?
Around A2 and up. The sweet spot is content where you follow most of a line and miss the rest. If nearly every word is unknown, the episode is too hard right now — pick something easier rather than fighting it. Complete beginners should start with a course.
What if the platform has no subtitles in my language?
Langee translates the line itself, in real time, and labels it as AI-translated. That's often the better line for learning anyway: platform subtitles are frequently written from the dub script, while Langee translates the sentence you're actually hearing.
Does it work on my phone?
Not yet. Langee is a Chrome desktop extension today, because the subtitle layer needs a real browser extension to exist at all. A mobile companion for reviewing on the go is on the roadmap; we'd rather say that plainly than imply it already ships.
What happens with my data?
Text is processed only when you interact — a click, a selection, a card. It's never used for advertising, Langee doesn't sell personal data, and your streaming password is never asked for.
How is this different from Anki?
Anki is a brilliant scheduler — and you build every card by hand. Langee makes the card as a side effect of watching, keeps the scene attached, runs the same family of algorithm, and adds what Anki doesn't have out of the box: reading and listening scheduled as separate skills, and a replay button that takes you back to the source.
Does it slow down playback?
The heavy work — breaking the subtitle into words and looking up your vocabulary — happens once when the track loads, from a local cache after that. AI calls only fire when you click a word, not while the episode is running.
What happens to everything I save?
It lives in your account and follows you between devices and sessions, with the sentence and timestamp intact. Full details of what is stored, where, and for how long are in the privacy policy.
